I have a confession.
It’s been almost 10 months since I last did yoga.
Yoga and I have a long-standing relationship. The very first yoga class I went to was during my senior year in high school. My mom was, at the time, an avid “yogi” because it really helped with her arthritis. She convinced me to go with her one weekend, and after that I went with her almost every Saturday.
I continued going to yoga classes throughout college at our athletic center. My sophomore year, I actually took a semester of Basic Yoga as a filler for credits, and learned quite a bit. This was really a time of growth in my relationship with yoga because our teacher really made us focus on our bodies and finding our levels of ability.
When I first moved last summer, I was determined to find a yoga studio here in Florida. As luck would have it, LivingSocial had a deal for 1 month unlimited yoga at a studio just 10 minutes from my apartment. After falling in love with the studio, and my favorite teacher Lynn, I decided to sign up for a 6 month membership.
I went 4, sometimes 5 days a week. Yoga kept me sane while I dealt with all the stresses of living in a new place. I was very uneasy for the first few months of living in south Florida. I hated my job, missed my family, wasn’t used to all the different cultures, and it was really, REALLY freakin’ hot all the time. Yoga made me find the positive in everything.
Unfortunately, as my membership was coming to an end, I had started a new job with less flexible hours so I had to part ways with the studio. And since then, I haven’t stepped foot on my yoga mat.
Until tonight!
On my drive home, I was thinking about how tight and sore my leg muscles have been lately from running more often. I was dreaming of downward dog when I remembered, I own P90x! They have yoga! Yes!
When I got home, I laid out my mat in the living room, propped my computer up on the coffee table and got in some serious yoga-therapy with Tony Horton. Even though P90X yoga isn’t my favorite and definitely doesn’t compare to a class, I still felt amazing.
My hamstrings are happy.
Tell me…. You + yoga = ??
I’m going to yoga tomorrow! I’m actually really excited to get into it! It’s so good for you!
Have you ever done it before?! It’s amazing for your posture and overall mental health haha :)
Yea, we did it for swimming three days a week last year and I really liked it but I feel like I didn’t use the benefits of it to my advantage as much as I could have
Me + yoga = the runt of the litter. I’m still pretty new to yoga and always seems to struggle with half the moves. While other people are doing headstands I’m muttering curse words under my breath. It’s definitely a love-hate relationship!
hey hey hey I still can’t do a headstand! I think I’m just scared I’ll break my neck though
No, I don’t do yoga. But you made me think that maybe I should give it a try…I’m stressed! :)
You absolutely should! Try out a studio near you, they normally offer drop-in classes for a fee
I love p90x yogax! So challenging! Glad you found a way to get back into your yoga groove :)
My shoulders are super sore today, I forgot how rough chattarangas are on your upper body!
= every saturday morning when I’m in town!! I am going 2 weeks with out it because of travelling and am not very excited! Welcome back to yogi landddd
I missed it dearly :)
I really need some yoga in my life. I’m looking for a place down here that I can start going to, because lately my body has been a bundle of soreness. Ouuuuuuuch.
