About Me

Hi! Welcome to Have Your Cake And. My name is Emily and I’m a Registered Dietitian.

Aside from my career, I have a love of food that is deeper than my soul. I love cooking, learning about new foods, trying new things, developing recipes, nutrition analysis, and of course eating. I’ve learned to embrace food in every aspect. I truly believe in the saying “everything in moderation”… it’s what inspired the blog name! You can certainly have your cake, ok and the ice cream, but maybe have some carrots too.

This blog serves as an outlet for anything and everything related to food, which just so happens to be my life.

Feel free to contact me by e-mail at haveyourcakeandblog@gmail.com

Or leave a comment on my posts! I’ll be sure to get back to you.

  1. Hi Emily.. I’m so happy I came across your blog! I am a recent graduate with a Bachelors of Science degree in Nutrition and I am very interested in becoming a Registered Dietitian, however I didn’t get into an internship on my first try. I am now an AmeriCorps VISTA in New York working to meet the needs of food security on a college campus. Any advice you can give me? Tips? How you survive the internship with expenses? Haha. I appreciate any of your feedback!

  2. Hi Danielle, I’m glad you found me! I actually didn’t get an internship my first time applying either, but got very lucky by stumbling upon an “up and coming” internship when I moved to South Florida. I think it’s GREAT that you are working and volunteering for such an amazing cause, that is a huge part of applications. They definitely look for experience, but they do also look at grades and your application letter as well. I think most importantly they want to see what sets you apart from other applicants since it has become so competitive. As for expenses… well I’m just super broke and have the best parents in the world.

I’m here to answer any of your questions, and I do have many friends that were successfully matched to an internship on their 1st and 2nd tries as well so I have some knowledge of their experiences too.

    • Thank you so much for getting back to me! I don’t know how I didn’t see your response sooner. I appreciate your feedback and hopefully the 2nd time will work out better for me!

  3. Hi Emily! Thanks for the follow :) Me alegro mucho de que me hayas encontrado, por que así he encontrado yo tu blog que me parece fantástico.
Too much Spanish? Sorry, is easier for me and you said you wanted to practice yours… ;)

  6. Just found your blog today, and I’m so excited! I’m currently a Junior pursuing a degree in dietetics, so I cannot wait to read more about your experiences in your internship!

  7. Hi Emily! I came across your blog a few months ago and have been blog stalking you since haha. I love love love that your studying to become a registered dietician and that your blog title has the word cake in it! I’m a senior in high school right now, and contemplating the idea of going into nutrition. The thing that pulls me away from it is how rigid the career CAN be (strict numbers, limits, etc.). RDs and RDs in training like you are such an inspiration to me, because if I do pick that career it is a mindset like yours that I want to have.
Hope your internship is going fabulous and I’m enjoying reading about your fabulous, healthy lifestyle!

    • I have to be honest, it is pretty rigid! The undergrad degree has a heavy science base and it can be very tough at times. The advice I have is that if you’re not totally into sciences, but know for a fact that nutrition is what you want to do, do not get discouraged by all the science classes! Just push through and study hard… It’s just an obstacle to overcome and once you’re done it gets better! Getting an internship is also very competitive nowadays so its important to keep on top of your grades but also network with people in the field as much as you can, get experience!

  8. Hey emily! I love your blog! I am currently applying for dietetic internships..talk about stressful! I was wondering if you have any tips for the personal statement/application letter! I feel like I’ve written and erased so many times! Any advice would be much appreciated! :)

    • Thanks for stopping by! I know that feeling for sure, I feel as though my personal statement was totally the bane of my existence when I was trying to write it. One piece of advice that I was told was to make sure it is true to YOU. Be honest and don’t fluff it up with little white lies. You definitely want it to reflect you as a person, and you want to flaunt your abilities while still being humble. Hope this helps! Also check out AllAccessInternships.com for some help ;)

  9. Hi Emily! I just found our blog and am interested in learning more about the life of a (soon to be) RD. I am originally from FL so I’ll have to live vicariously through your beach pics! :)

  10. I just found your blog and I love it! I also thought it was funny when you mentioned your ridiculously good looking boyfriend, was that a Zoolander reference? Anyway, I look forward to reading more of your posts :)
