I’ve still been going strong with the whole dairy-free thing. Aside from the improvement in my breakouts, I’ve also noticed my digestive system reaping some benefits as well. Not to go into too much detail but, things are moving along well… haha. Health professionals talk about bowel habits like they talk about the weather but, I realize some people that read my blog are not as accustomed to that conversation, so I’ll spare the details here hah.
Anyway, to be consistent with cutting out dairy (except for cheese, I let myself have cheese when I really want it), I was on the hunt for a non-dairy protein powder. Most protein powders on the market are either whey or casein, which is dairy-protein. I’d heard about a few vegan brands before, but decided to consult good ol’ Google and typed in “plant-based protein powder”. The first thing that came up was Sun Warrior.
After checking out the website, I contacted their customer service to ask for some samples before I made the dive to purchase. They were very prompt and incredibly friendly, and within a few days I had a package of samples at my doorstep.
They sent me some other products to sample also, but I’ve only tried the protein as of now. It’s a very fine powder, which means good for mixing. I blended the ‘natural’ flavor into a banana-mango smoothie and there was absolutely no funky aftertaste or gritty texture. I haven’t tried the chocolate yet, but I plan to make my morning smoothie with it tomorrow.
Check out those stats! And that ingredient list.. cranberry, pea and hemp protein? I’m not sure if the nutrition facts are equivalent to 1 scoop if you bought a large container of it, but the amount in the packet seems like it would equal one scoop. Sweetened with stevia means almost no sugar, and 16 grams of protein? Not bad for a vegan formula, not bad at all. I’ll happily give my smoothies a boost with this protein!
What protein is your favorite? Have you heard of Sun Warrior?
